Platforms and Wrappers

Platforms

A secure and integrated investment platform is a smarter, more efficient and convenient way to hold assets and to manage your financial plan over the medium to longer term.

It works by bringing all your investment assets and tax wrappers (e.g. ISAs, pensions, life assurance bonds etc.) together so that they are all under the same roof, which in turn allows you to see more easily and more efficiently, the development of your investment strategy to meet your personal and financial goals.

Platforms allow your financial adviser access to an extensive range of assets enabling them to allocate these assets to the most tax-efficient wrappers including ISAs, pensions and life insurance bonds amongst others.
Platforms offer you secure online access 24/7, daily valuations and fund information.

When assets are bought, sold, withdrawn or deposited, you receive transaction confirmations and reports to keep you informed and up to date; they also make it that much easier to do end of year tax returns and probate.

Wrappers

Wrappers are tax-efficient vehicles that you can, subject to certain rules, ‘wrap’ around your assets to help minimise the tax that you pay on your investments returns.

Such assets can include unit trusts, open-ended investment companies (OEICs), exchange traded funds (ETFs), investment trusts, venture capital trusts (VCTs), structured products, bank term deposits, cash, government bonds (gilts) and corporate bonds.

In addition, you have access to hundreds of investment managers and thousands of investment funds and assets

However complex your investment position, platforms provide you with a complete picture of your current portfolio all in one place

How we work

We keep it straightforward and simple.

1

Arrange a Lifestyle Planning Meeting

A meeting at our expense to identify where you are now, how you got to where you are now, and where you’re trying to get to in the next 5, 10 and 20 years and so on for the rest of your life; in other words, a Lifestyle Plan.

2

Arrange a Financial Planning Meeting

Another meeting, again at our expense, to identify all the resources available to you now, resources that will become available in future, and most importantly resources that might have to become available to satisfy the needs of your Lifestyle Plan.

3

Arrange an Implementation Meeting of your Financial Plan

If, and only if, your Financial Plan indicates that that your needs would be best served by a financial or investment product and service, it is at this point that a recommendation will be made, again at our expense. If you are happy to go ahead in full knowledge of the facts and the fees involved, we can then start to implement your Financial Plan. If you want to walk away at this point, no problem; we wish you well and it won’t have cost you anything.

4

Arrange an Annual Forward Planning Meeting

Now on board as a Sutherland IFA fee-paying client, an annual meeting is held to make sure that your Lifestyle Plan and your Financial Plan are on track to meet your financial goals and objectives.
